SOPHIA UNIVERSITY - ALL SOPHIANS FESTIVALS, GRACES & ENCOUNTERS
Dancing Through Time, Learning Across Borders
By John Francis Mukulu, SJ
At the end of May 2025, We had the grace-filled opportunity to participate in the All Sophians Festival at Sophia University. A joyful homecoming gathering where past and present sophians met in communion.
Shared Moments in a Shared Mission
As a Jesuit scholastic in a Jesuit institution, I was deeply moved by the spirit of magis, the desire to do more for God and others that permeated every interaction and encounter.
From the commemorative Mass to enriching lectures and heartfelt encounters. The day was a powerful reminder of how the Sophia community embodies global solidarity, intellectual depth, and shared mission.
As usual, the festival was filled with a number of dances, shows and other talents. Walking among students, and alumni of even 40 years ago, I felt gratitude for the gift of diversity, and formation that comes with it, both academic and spiritual.
The Journey Continues: Grace Beyond the Festival & global partnerships
As June is pacing forward we also received guests from Boston College, filming the history of Christian and Jesuit missions in Japan.
At our AI Lab we’ve also had the grace of receiving visiting professors from various universities in India and Europe. We thank the Lord for the opportunity to grow in wisdom, to walk with others across cultures, and to serve more faithfully in this least Society of Jesus. In Christ we pray, Amen.
