Silent Yet Steadfast

By Fr. Silas Kemboi, SJ

On November 27th and December 5th, the Safeguarding Office had the privilege of facilitating one-day safeguarding seminars for the support staff serving at Mwangaza—Pedro Arrupe Jesuit Community (PAC), Mwangaza Spirituality Centre, and the Jesuit Development Office (JDO)—as well as the non-teaching staff of La Salle Catholic School in Nairobi.

I consider these sessions a God-given opportunity to conclude our annual calendar by engaging with individuals who often work quietly in the background. From my own experience living and working in Jesuit apostolates across the province, I have come to appreciate that support and non-teaching staff are frequently our most stable and permanent collaborators. In many private institutions, teaching staff rotate regularly. This reality challenges us: if we are to build a consistent culture of safeguarding, we must intentionally prioritize the formation of support and non-teaching personnel. They are not only part of our institutions—they are often the backbone that ensures continuity.

We are truly grateful for this opportunity and for all who helped organize and ensure the smooth running of the seminars. Our calendar of events for the coming year is ready and has already been shared with superiors and directors of works across our communities and apostolates. We look forward to an engaging and collaborative year ahead.

Thank you for journeying with us.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
