LCMC’s New Child-Friendly Guide Set to Equip Learners for a Greener Tomorrow
By Ms. Teresia Muia
On July 7, 2025, the Loyola Centre for Media and Communications(LCMC) convened a virtual summit that brought together 109 participants from across Kenya’s education, environmental, and faith sectors to launch a 60-page child-friendly environmental training guide.
The guide, developed to align with Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), introduces children to foundational topics such as environmental rights, sustainable development goals (SDGs), and practical eco-actions like kitchen gardening, waste management, and tree planting. It also features interactive assignments and colorful illustrations designed to make climate literacy engaging and accessible to young learners.
Education and environmental experts present at the launch, including Prof. Michael Koech (Kenyatta University), Dr. Larry Kimani (NEMA), and Dominic Mutua (KICD), praised the guide’s relevance and practicality. They recommended further integration with digital platforms and the inclusion of multimedia resources to expand its impact.
As part of LCMC’s broader campaign to root ecological awareness in children, the guide is expected to empower schools, churches, and community groups to raise a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens ready to act for a greener tomorrow.
