By Fr. Leander Kabutta, SJ
Fr. Cristóbal Fones, SJ, International Director of Popes Worldwide Prayer Network (PWPN) which includes its youth branch (EYM – Eucharistic Youth Movement) is visiting AOR. The aim is to familiarise himself with the local particulars of the apostolate in the province since he is himself new in office; and inform us on the status of the apostolate worldwide, now that we have a new pope.
Apart from Me (Fr. Kabutta, director / coordinator for AOR), those who have joined the Fr. Cristóbal are Fr. Valter João Cassamano S.J. (Coordinator for Africa), Fr. Grant Tungay S.J. (Assistant Coordinator—English Speaking Africa) and Fr. Jonas Kiplimo (Diocese of Eldoren, EYM National Director for Kenya).
We are very happy that Pope Leo XIV, apart from directing some few adjustments our manner of communication, he has very positively accepted this pontifical work. In meetings we are also becoming part of the planning the continental meeting to be held in Nigeria in November 2026.
So far we have had meetings with the Pope Nuncio M. Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen and the President and Secretary of JCAM. We also visited Mwangaza and PAC. Today (Friday the 26th) Fr. Cristóbal is meeting the Provincial in the afternoon, and we are going to visit students and staff of Hekima College. On Saturday we are going to have a group of 11 members of EYM from Diocese of Eldoret, and members of the National Team of PWNP and have some sharing with them as people of the same apostolate.
Fr. Cristóbal will be travelling to Uganda, then Ethiopia where he is going to have similar meetings. He will be travelling back to Rome on the 8th of October from Addis Ababa.
