St Theresa Parish-Mission of Reconciliation (Rumbek)

By Fr. Francis Wambua, SJ

This year on 25th May 2025 the Christians of St Theresa Parish in Rumbek witnessed the ordination of one of their sons to priesthood. The son, Rev. Fr Chadrack Chol, is a fruit of the works of Fr Ferrao Salvador, SJ, who is currently helping at St Joseph’s the Worker Parish, Kangemi. Even though the son did not join the diocesan seminary through St Theresa but rather, under the recommendation of Fr Ferrao Salvador, SJ, joined through the Holy Family Cathedral parish. We are happy for this great achievement at St Theresa. The new priest said a thanksgiving Mass at St Theresa Parish on the Pentecost Sunday. He has now been missioned to Holy Cross parish, Yirol as an assistant parish priest.

Again, on 22nd June 2025, the Christians of St Theresa celebrated the Corpus Christi with Mass and thereafter a procession with the Blessed Sacrament. It happens that this was the only parish among the four parishes in Rumbek town that had the Eucharistic procession. We thank the Lord for the seed of faith is slowly taking shape even though at times it is not at the speed we want. Different from when I arrived close to two years ago, the parish has slowly started regaining its vibrance with new members witnessed every Sunday.

On the side of the St Theresa kindergarten, we are in the process of building two classrooms. This will be a blessing and especially to the class that has been having their lessons under the trees. We are grateful to our donors and benefactors who have been supporting the mission at St Theresa. We continue to pray for God’s blessings to the companions who are in Dodoma for the Superiors and directors of works meeting, and for the province assembly, that their deliberations may move the province to the next level.
