Evangelizing Beyond Pulpits and Religious Walls

By Ms. Teresia Muia

As Artificial Intelligence reshapes communication and digital content creation, religious formees in Kenya are embracing technology for evangelization.

The first cohort of the ongoing AI and Digital Literacy Training for Religious Formees, organized by Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC), has successfully completed its initial sessions, introducing participants to modern digital ministry tools.

The training brought together novices, postulants, and juniors from different congregations. Participants were trained on AI-powered tools for content creation, video editing, design, automation, and digital storytelling. The sessions also explored the Church’s synodal call for participation, listening, and digital missionary hood.

What started as curiosity and uncertainty around AI quickly turned into creativity and innovation. Some participants developed digital evangelization projects, while others successfully created AI agents to support pastoral work and communication.

Facilitators noted a major shift in attitude among participants. Many moved from viewing AI negatively to seeing it as a useful and ethical tool for evangelization, reflections, and faith communication.

The sessions are ongoing and will continue every Friday up to June 12, 2026, with more religious formees expected to join the journey of becoming responsible digital missionaries.
