Viwawa Pilgrimage to Maria Rita
By Dominic Mutunga, SJ
The Youth of K-Ndege parish (VIWAWA) had a very successful and grace-filled pilgrimage to Maria Rita shrine at Mwanza from September 13th to 16th. It all started with a seminar about pilgrimage on Sep 11th followed by confessions and adoration of the blessed Sacrament on Sep 12th and farewell Mass on Sep 13th after which the journey started at 6pm. The first day was marked with Holy Rosary and the Way of the Cross prayers as the youthful pilgrims ascended the Mountain that hosts the Shrine, a church and the priest’s residence. The entire area is quite rocky yet beautiful to behold. Up at the shrine, the pilgrims had a moment of silence during which each wrote their prayer intentions amid personal reflections. Two seminars followed soon after: the first focused on the life, time, and goals of youth and the second, facilitated by Mwanza region police department for Gender and Child Safeguarding, sensitized the congregation on the various kinds and effects of abuse, investigation processes, rights of both the victims and abusers and related issues. The second day was marked with a tour of the Mwanza – commonly referred to as the Rock city.
Graduation at St. Ignatius Prep and Primary School
The beautiful and well-organized 15th graduation took place on September 18th at the school grounds. It started with Holy Eucharist presided over by the Secretary for Education in the Arch Diocese of Dodoma at 9 am. Then followed entertainment, speeches and presentation of gifts to the hundred and seven (107) graduands. In his speech, the diocese secretary for education called attention to integral education, respect in relationships, child safeguarding, catechetical formation and practice of faith, love of environments and a gospel that balances faith and reason. The chief guest (Eng. Sanga – the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands), among other points, urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of St. Ignatius school as well as making effort to increase in stature and wisdom.
