"If you know you know" Hekima is moving from better to best
Dear friends in the Lord, I am quite optimistic that we are all doing well in our respective apostolates and missions. It has been a while since I surfaced in this platform and now I have bounced back. A lot has happened at Hekima University College, first it was the inauguration of the new academic year 2023/2024 which was on the 19th August 2023 and our guest of honour was Fr. Ludovic Lado, SJ from AOC province. At the beginning of his presentation he quoted the Gospel of John 1:18 and then he continued by saying “My situation can never be your situation.
A situated being can only be from where the person is. He added that theology can only be anthropological. Only God can be a theologian.” In the Scriptures we see God caring humanity, God is concerned with humanity, he pointed out the problem of violence in the World and in Africa in particular.” Dr. Lado continued to ask several questions in his presentation; “How can we ensure that human beings are able to live together? Is theology and peace studies a solution to the current problems of our world today? Father Lado, SJ emphasized that Theos, depends on Anthropos to transform the world. He argued that theology that does not lead to liberation practice is not worthy doing. Fr. Lado, SJ said that we need to go to the fundamental questions, why are human beings violent? As a way of responding he said that human beings have been wounded and hence wickedness springs from the heart of human beings. He also emphasized that Spirituality is not about meeting with God but self-transformation. He reiterated that “we are busy trying to change the world and yet we are not able to change ourselves. Fr. Lado, SJ still wonders how; Africa is full of theologies and yet Africa remains poor. So, for Father Lado SJ, what is crucial is that we need to do theology that informs the needs of our time. Fr. Lado ended his lecture by saying that a faculty of theology like Hekima University College should not be a factory to produce priests to celebrate mass but we need more Moses who will confront Pharaohs and Herods of our time.
The inauguration of the new academic year was marked by celebration of the Eucharist at the end that was celebrated by the President of JCAM Fr. Jose Minaku, SJ. This mass also marked the beginning of the celebration of the 40 years anniversary since the establishment of Hekima University College with the Theme “Hekima at 40 moving from better to best.” We are all invited to support Hekima at 40 in our online platforms towards the celebration of our anniversary next year 2024. Otherwise studies are going on well here and our Wednesday masses are always an inspiring moment in our spiritual life; so, again you are all invited to join us in praising God together. In addition to the above Hekima Jesuit community Sports competitions in all the games has just started and we look forward to successful winners in the days to come. Many regards from Hekima.
