A Heartfelt Note of Gratitude for My Diaconate Ordination
By Michael Sitati, SJ
With a deep spirit of gratitude, I extend my heartfelt thanks to you, dear companions, for your unwavering support and prayers, especially during my diaconate ordination. I am pleased to share that the ordination was a truly blessed occasion, and the graces of this sacred rite were received in abundance.
The ordination Mass began at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Adams Arcade, Nairobi, with our own bishop, The Most Reverend RodrÃguez MejÃa, as the main celebrant. He was joined by the JECAM President, Provincial Superiors, and priests from various regions. A total of 16 Jesuits were ordained as deacons, along with others from different congregations, bringing the total to 24 deacons and 2 priests ordained that day. It was an awe-inspiring moment to witness both the diaconate and priestly ordinations taking place simultaneously.
During his homily, the bishop emphasized the threefold ministry of the ordained: to teach, to govern, and to sanctify, explaining how these roles apply differently to each ordained ministry. We were encouraged to be deacons of and for the people—always ready to serve at the altar and beyond.
I am deeply grateful to the Provincial, fellow Jesuits who participated in the celebration, the parish community, my family, and my friends. Your prayers and presence made this occasion even more meaningful.
May the labor of our hands never be in vain, for as Scripture reminds us:
“Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Thank you, and may God bless you all abundantly.
