A Blessing of Hope: Bishop Lisane-Christos and Cardinal Berhaneyesus Bless the Land Cruiser for the Jesuits in Bonga

Early on November 12, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a significant new chapter began—one that would be deeply etched in the hearts of all those present. The much-anticipated Land Cruiser had finally arrived, and its meaning went far beyond its gleaming appearance. It was not merely a vehicle; it represented hope, service, and the promise of new opportunities for both the Jesuits and the local community.
As the car stood ready, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation. Then, the moment that would make this day unforgettable arrived: Bishop Lisane-Christos of the Eparchy of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia and Cardinal Souraphiel Berhaneyesus, CM, Metropolitan Archbishop of Addis Ababa—two key figures of the Ethiopian Catholic Church— stood before the nuns and the Jesuit, raising their hands in a blessing. With sincere prayers, they invoked God’s grace upon the Land Cruiser, praying for its safe journeys and the vital work it would support in the years to come.
This blessing was not just a ritual, but a powerful symbol of unity, underscoring the strong bond between the Jesuits and the Church in Ethiopia. The vehicle, now blessed, was more than a mere means of transportation; it became a vessel for God’s mission, carrying faith and service to remote areas where help is desperately needed. As the vehicle was blessed, we were reminded of why we are here in Ethiopia: to serve, to help, and to be a beacon of hope for those who need it most.
