Vice President of the Southwest Region makes an official visit to the project
By Linus Tigiti, SJ

Imagine waking up early in the heart of nature, where the only sounds that greet you are the cheerful songs of birds and the rustle of monkeys playfully moving through the trees. The beauty of the Jesuit compound, with its lush, ever-green trees, always seems to smile with vitality. On November 15 and 21, the day began like any other, peaceful and serene, with no hint of the exciting events that would unfold later that day. Little did we know, November 15, 2024, would bring an unexpected surprise—the visit of the Vice President of the Southwest Region, Ethiopia.

It was truly a momentous occasion for all of us, as we had the honor of hosting such distinguished government officials. Their visit brought a wave of admiration as they marveled at the incredible transformation we’ve achieved. What was once a vast and untouched forest has now evolved into the vibrant Bonga Town—a thriving community, brimming with progress.

The Vice President was especially impressed by the impressive strides we’ve made, particularly in developing key infrastructure and facilities that will significantly improve the community’s well-being. As one of the government officials responsible for approving the allocation of land to the Jesuits, he expressed deep pride in witnessing this vision come to fruition. He highlighted the importance of sustainable development and its ongoing positive impact.

Accompanying the Vice President was Mr. Endashaw, the Chief of Kaffa Zone, who also praised the remarkable progress. This visit was a powerful reminder of the strong partnership between the Jesuits and government, a partnership that is helping to lay the foundation for a brighter future in Bonga Town and the surrounding region. Together, we are creating lasting change that will benefit generations to come.
