Jesuit Provincial Visits Juba: Strengthening Presence and Collaboration
The visit of Fr. Provincial to Juba marked a significant step in the Jesuit engagement within the region, focusing on pastoral collaboration.
Arriving on February 3 via Ethiopian Airlines, Fr. Provincial was received and taken to the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) compound. Without delay, he commenced his scheduled activities, beginning with site visits to key Jesuit properties. The first stop was the Jesuit-owned land in Rombur, where he was accompanied by Fr. James Pitya. Despite the intense heat, the visit was fruitful, allowing Fr. Provincial to assess the land’s potential and meet local occupants. Later, he proceeded to St. Martin de Porres Chapel in Rokwe, currently leased to driving schools. The chapel is enticing given its proximity to both Catholic University and St. Paul Seminary in the teaching service and its proximity to the city Centre. Whether the enticement will become a reality, time will tell!
On the second day, Fr. Provincial paid a courtesy visit to Sacred Heart Parish in Kworjik, where he was warmly welcomed by Fr. James Pitya. Following this, they proceeded to a pivotal meeting with His Eminence Cardinal Ameyo. Cardinal Ameyo expressed his desire to have Jesuits in the archdiocese, acknowledging the immensity of the needs.
The Provincial then departed for Maban to continue his mission.
