A section of religious following the conference on Friday.

By Vincent Opiyo, SJ

This week marked the end of the first semester academic activities. Next week ushers in an exam period of the said semester before commencing the second on February 26, 2024. But let me take you through a few activities that punctuated the beginning of this short month of the year. We marked the world day of consecrated life on February 2nd with a three-fold event: a conference on formation in religious life given to all religious residing in Kimwenza on Friday at our grande salle. Secondly, a friendly match between communities composing our Kimwenza religious association on Saturday. Unfortunately, I am afraid to give you results of the team composed of Jesuits, it might surprise you. Let’s first finish the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Abidjan. Thirdly on the final day (Sunday 4th February, 2024) transpired a closing mass at Sainte Marie de Kimwenza parish. It was followed by a meal sharing at the Josephites polyvalent hall (most meals were prepared by sisters – you can imagine how appetizing it was).

On another note, a section of community members joined our companion Gauthier Mafuta, SJ for his priestly ordination at the cathedral situated at the heart of Kinshasa – Gombe. He celebrated his first mass for the community yesterday – Thursday 8th February 2024 followed by a feast.

Finally, remember our country, DR Congo, in prayers especially during this time with unpleasant news streaming in from the war-torn eastern part.
