Winding up the first semester

By Eric Mwaniki, SJ

At last, the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year is done and dusted. It has been a semester marked by intense academic work. We started exams on Monday 12, February 2024 and finished on the 20th February 2024. We commence the second semester on Monday 26th February 2024. Concurrently, the community also had the honor to host Fr. Wilfred Okambawa, SJ and the delegate of formation for the French West Africa Province famously known as AOC (Afrique Occidentalis) with whom we had an edifying sharing as a community yesterday.

Moreover, as the University of Loyola, we congregated to launch chaplaincy activities by celebrating mass on 13th February 2024, a day before opening the Lenten season. In his homily, Fr. Elie Ngongo, SJ – freshly ordained early this month at the cathedral in Kinshasa, put emphasis on staying focused on what has brought us at the university. A few days later, the University welcomed Bishop Donat Maloko-Mana Bafuidinsoni, SJ who is the president of the university’s administration council. He, alongside the other members held a two-day meeting that was concluded with a thanksgiving mass that united university students in the community Chapel. With that, the semester came to an end. On the same note, our rector, Fr. Modeste Modekamba, SJ was appointed the university chaplain replacing Fr. Cedrick Mokonzi who relocated to Rome for studies.
