Around the Tree Rooted in the Society
By Brian Mugambi, SJ
Bonjour! Hopefully the going keeps getting better. Things on our side are quite unfolding steadily and rapidly as we dive deep into academic undertakings. There has been flurry of activities ranging from all across the spheres of academic obligations and necessities, spiritual steadfastness, community allegiances to physical run-through.
As it is the pattern and custom of each and every last weekend of the month, we congregated in sync for our premier recollection of the school year on 26th October. The session was led by Fr. Lansa Francis, SJ who fixated his reflections on the theme: “Around the tree rooted in the Society”. The recollection invited each and every other scholastic, to envisage and meditate the type of trees we aspire to become, the fruits we bear and the soil in which our roots are anchored. He also jogged our memories by emphasizing on the nature of formation we get over here and the call to embrace it holistically.
Into other happenings that made highlights over here, on the 3rd of November, we congregated collectively to witness, applaud and commend our brothers who were conferred upon lectors and acolytes into the One, Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church. It was an event where cultural diversity, elegance and jubilation were at par and above excellence. Fr. Kyungu Musenge Rigobert, Provincial, ACE, was the celebrant of the day who gave tonnes of insights into what is called to lead and to serve. His Sermon was on the beatitudes in which he insisted on the values of reading the word of God and living it whilst for the acolytes it was a message of service to others. The mass was vibrant as harmonious hymns and ululations were in unison with an elated and jubilant congregant singing along. The lectors are second years whilst acolytes being the finalist.
Refreshments followed thereafter, which entailed drinks, cultural dances and interaction came in handy as well, which was the main order of the afternoon. The climax of the day being, the sharing and celebrating and getting glimpses into the exemplary life lived by the servant of God, Mgr. Christophe Munzihirwa, SJ (1926-1996), whose Beatification process is still in progress.
