Make Noise in a Religious and Professional Way
By Sr. Santrina Raymond, IBVM
The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) in collaboration with Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) ushered in a training and mentorship programme for key communication staff of the Catholic Care for the Children (CCC) from Kenya, Malawi, Uganda and Zambia.
Participants gathered at Donum Dei in Karen-Nairobi, for a four-day physical training and there after continue with online engagement focusing on social communications, branding and the use of visuals when telling their institutions’ story to the world.
Very Rev. Anthony Makunde the AMECEA Secretary General (quoting Gabon’s president Ali Bongo Ondimba) called upon participants to “Make Noise” in a religious and professional way, so that the world may know that the children have a right to, and a cry for a family environment. This is the goal of CCC Institutions. “Why should we allow people who are not part of us to make noise on our behalf?” He asked. “They will not represent the true image of who we are and what we are doing. “Make noise of what we are convinced of, and of what we are doing” he concluded urging participants to maximise what they could benefit from the training.
Dr. Elias Mokua, SJ explained the concepts of Digital Natives i.e. those who have grown up with the internet, and Digital Immigrants e.g. those who grew up without the internet (Quoting the document – Towards Full Presence), participants found their position in the two concepts and throughout the training they endeavoured to grasp as much as they could. The LCMC team members organised themselves for the effective facilitation of the sessions and Fr. Faustine Binamungu, SJ supported the team by facilitating a session on Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
