In a spirited effort to advance the United Nations’ agenda of building inclusive and sustainable communities, the Loyola Centre for Media and Communication (LCMC), in collaboration with Nairobi Recyclers, hosted a vibrant Environmental Exhibition at Shalom House in Karen on Friday, June 21, 2024. The event brought together a diverse range of organizations dedicated to sustainability and community development.

Nairobi Recyclers, an organization committed to waste management and the utilization of clean, renewable energy, partnered with LCMC to highlight the critical importance of environmental stewardship. This exhibition, aimed at spearheading the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 on climate action, showcased the collective zeal of these organizations to build a better future for all.

The event featured participation from various local groups, including Paolo’s Children’s Home and Tone la Maji, a rehabilitation center that provides care and education to children in difficult circumstances. These organizations and others present, show cased their services, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable development and community welfare.

LCMC’s partnership with Nairobi Recyclers, which began in March 2024, has been instrumental in educating school-going children in Kawangware Area-Nairobi about their environmental rights, guided by the UN SDG goals. This collaboration reflects a strong dedication to fostering environmental awareness and action among the youth, ensuring a lasting impact on the community.

The exhibition not only highlighted the ongoing efforts to promote sustainability but also underscored the importance of collaborative action in achieving the SDGs. As attendees engaged with various exhibits and learned about innovative practices, the event reinforced the message that a greener, more inclusive future is within reach.

The LCMC team collaborated with Stanley Didi from Nairobi Recyclers to prepare materials for the exhibition.

By bringing together community members, local organizations, and sustainability advocates, the LCMC and Nairobi Recyclers have set a powerful example of how collective efforts can drive meaningful change. This event marks a significant step forward in Nairobi’s journey toward environmental sustainability and the fulfillment of the United Nations’ vision for inclusive and sustainable communities.
