LCMC Advocates AI in Ministry to Connect with Gen-Z and Alpha Generations
By Ms. Teresia Muia
The Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC), led by Executive Director Dr. Elias Mokua, SJ, has called on the church to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) as a vital tool to connect with younger generations, particularly Gen-Z and Alpha. Speaking at a recent session at Clergy House in Kasarani, attended by about 50 clergy members, Dr. Mokua emphasized the need for the Church to adapt to the digital age to remain relevant and accessible.
The session, attended by key figures such as His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, Most.Rev Philip Anyolo, The Archbishop of Nairobi and his auxiliary, Rt. Rev. Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe, highlighted how AI can enhance ministry efficiency through automation and interactive content. Dr. Mokua pointed out that AI could play a crucial role in engaging the youth, whose learning styles are increasingly digital and interactive.
The clergy members participated in hands-on activities, exploring how AI could generate religious audiovisual content, manage documents, and support catechism. The enthusiasm was tangible as they recognized the potential of AI to revitalize Church ministries and address the ongoing challenge of retaining younger congregants.
Dr. Mokua’s message was clear: embracing AI is essential for the Church to remain relevant and meet the evolving needs of future generations.
