Ngong Diocese Embraces a Digital Path for Communication and Information Sharing
By Ms. Teresia Muia
The Catholic Diocese of Ngong is entering a new chapter in communication, as 20 communication agents have been trained in digital skills and content creation, thanks to the Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC). The two-day workshop, held at Watakatifu Wote Centre in Ngong town, aimed to enhance the agents’ proficiency in using digital tools and modern communication techniques effectively.
Facilitated by a team of six LCMC staff members, including Executive Director Dr. Elias Mokua, SJ, the workshop covered a wide range of topics, from leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in content creation to video production, photography, news writing, blogging, and media literacy.
During his opening address, Dr. Mokua highlighted the vital role communication agents play within their parishes. He emphasized the need for building positive relationships with church leaders and affiliated groups, urging participants to be mindful of the sensitivity surrounding religious content. “Always cross-check the content you generate with the diocese or the relevant authorities, especially on theological matters,” he advised.
The hands-on sessions, particularly those on AI-powered content creation, left participants excited and eager to apply their newfound skills. Many found the process not only easier but also more enjoyable than before. In light of the successful training, participants expressed interest in follow-up sessions to ensure they continue developing these skills.
This practical and engaging workshop marks the beginning of a promising partnership between LCMC, the Diocese of Ngong, and the Archdiocese of Nairobi at large, with the shared goal of improving communication within the Church and revolutionizing the ministry’s outreach efforts.
With this initiative, LCMC continues to strengthen its role as a leader in digital media training, contributing to more effective and professional communication across the Church’s various platforms.
