LCMC’s Youth Project Transforms Lives in Eldoret
By Ms. Teresia Muia

In a significant breakthrough for youth empowerment, the Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) is celebrating its first success stories from the Communications Think Positive Alternatives Exist (CTPAE) initiative. Over the past three months, young participants in Eldoret have gained invaluable digital content creation and performance art skills, leading to remarkable employment opportunities.

During an engaging two-day interaction from October 14th to 15th, 20 enthusiastic young individuals expressed their gratitude for the transformative impact of the LCMC program. Joy Kesenwa, the Programs Manager at LCMC, facilitated discussions that highlighted how participants have enhanced their professionalism through practical skill acquisition.

“I secured a place as a peer educator due to my passion for public speaking and creating journals and booklets. I really appreciate the training I have received through LCMC-Jesuits,” shared Philip Lelei, an aspiring peer mentor. Another beneficiary, Darwin Edagiza, proudly announced, “I’m thrilled to share that I have landed a position with Impulse, an online writing and marketing company.”

Throughout the workshop, participants delved deeper into vital aspects of performance arts, including acting, singing, public speaking, scripting, dancing, photography, and cinematography. Moreover, they explored the innovation cycle, learning to develop, refine, and implement new ideas effectively in today’s competitive digital landscape.

This impactful project is currently being implemented by LCMC in both Eldoret and Mombasa, specifically designed to empower youth who have transitioned out of care homes. By equipping them with essential skills in performance art and content creation, LCMC is not only fostering creativity but also guiding them on how to monetize their ideas as they navigate the challenges of the digital world.

With these successes, LCMC reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the talents of young people, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.
