Loyola Centre Prepares for Groundbreaking Conference on Faith and Justice in Kenya
By Ms. Teresia Muia

Amidst thorough preparations, the Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) is set to host a transformative two-day conference on May 7th and 8th, 2024. The focus of this significant gathering will delve into the critical intersection between conscience and the rule of law, particularly in combatting corruption within Kenya. LCMC firmly believes in the power of faith as a driving force for social justice, a belief that informs the core theme of the upcoming event.

Preparations for this conference have been visible, with LCMC taking proactive steps to ensure its success. Two focused group discussions were conducted to gauge the necessity and urgency of such a conversation on faith and social justice within the Kenyan context. Participants engaged actively, expressing a clear need for a platform that addresses the role of faith in societal integrity in Kenya.

Mr.Denson Machuki (far right); the programs officer for ADP with some members of public in a focused group discussion on public service delivery, Jan 2024.

Questions raised during these two sessions echoed the voices of many: “How can the church remain silent amidst mismanagement of public funds while fervently praying for the leaders?” and “Why does our nation exhibit religious fervor while contradicting values prevail in our daily lives?” These inquiries indicated the pressing demand for initiatives that explore the connection of faith, governance, and social justice.

In response to these calls for action, LCMC proudly announces the launch of the Angaza Dialogue Platform (ADP) earlier this year, a new program aimed at fostering meaningful conversations on critical societal issues. The upcoming conference marks the beginning of many important discussions and events under this platform.

In a world where more people are asking for fair and honest leadership every day, LCMC is leading the way. We believe that faith can make society fairer, and the upcoming conference will be a big step forward. It will help us move towards a society where honesty, responsibility, and kindness are most important.
