Book Launch at Loyola High School

On the vibrant afternoon of March 18, 2025, palpable excitement filled the air at Loyola High School as students, alumni, and staff gathered for a significant event. The Loyola High School had long stood as a cornerstone of the community, fostering creativity and inspiring generations. The atmosphere was electric as two new books, poised to make a lasting impact, were set to be launched.

Fr. Joseph Oduor Afulo, SJ, the Headmaster of Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam launched his two ground-breaking publications: “Trends of Higher Education Policy in East Africa” and “Purpose of Education: Principles, Policies, and Practices.” Both books reflect his extensive research and deep commitment to enhancing educational practices within the region.

The launch was not only a celebration of literature but also an opportunity for dialogue around the challenges and opportunities facing education policies and practices in East Africa today. Fr. Afulo, in his two publications, highlighted the importance of understanding the evolving landscape of higher education policies that influence the learning environment. He conveyed his vision of education as a tool for empowerment, urging to embrace progressive ideas that stimulate critical thinking and innovation.

The guest speaker, Mr. August Francis, one of the book reviewers, brought additional depth to the conversation. With passion and clarity, he presented various insights from the books, drawing connections between educational practices and the broader socio-economic context. His discussion emphasized education’s vital role in empowering communities and highlighted the need for adaptable policies that meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Mr. Francis also addressed the importance of collaboration among educators, policymakers, and community leaders to create a more inclusive and effective educational system. He encouraged attendees to actively engage with these ideas, highlighting that true change often starts at the grassroots level, where individuals can take initiative and drive progress in their communities. Throughout the event, attendees engaged and left with renewed hope and motivation to advocate for necessary changes, armed with new perspectives and ideas sparked by the event.
