The Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola in Wau- South Sudan
By Sch. Valentino Okwero, SJ
This year, Loyola secondary School in Wau, South Sudan celebrated the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola with colors, enthusiasm and great joy. Before the celebration, as if it was Divine making and indeed it was, there were drizzling for a short period of time. When the rain stopped, in less time, our students and parents thronged the school. Everything was in place and the day began with the Holy Eucharist. This time, the highlight of the Liturgical service was the exceptional performance by the school choir.
The choir, comprising students from different classes delivered a stirring rendition of traditional hymns and contemporary sacred music. Their passionate performance, the melodies and their angelic voices captured the essence of the Celebration. That added a profound spiritual dimension to the celebration. The choir performance was acclaimed by the parents, all the attendance and on very serious note everybody believed to have heard for the first time ever a best choir singing in Wau. Everyone appreciated the musical talent and the dedication of our school choir.
The uplifting music created an atmosphere of reverence and joy, perfectly complementing the day’s reflection on St. Ignatius teachings and values. The choir’s exceptional contribution was a testament to their hard work and the vibrant spirit of the Loyola Secondary School. The preacher of the day reminded us of the word “magis” and encouraged the choir and everybody to inculcate this same spirit of doing more. He highlighted that St. Ignatius did not just want to do more, he wanted to do more for the greater glory of God and to serving God’s people.
After the Mass, there was a cultural showcase featuring performances and presentations focused to providing space for the students to display their diverse talents. And this is a just a basketful of events that happened in Loyola Secondary school.Vive Loyola Secondary School in Wau- South Sudan.
