Celebration of the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish, Muyeye
By Wanzala Kanenje, SJ

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the Church of St. Charles Lwanga was filled with joy and reverence as four Jesuits and the Christian community of Muyeye gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Mass, which began at 5:00 PM EAT, was presided over by Fr. Sossy, SJ, and concelebrated by Fr. Damas, SJ, and Fr. Deshi. SJ. Sch. Kanenje, SJ, accompanied the priests on the altar.

During the homily, each Jesuit present shared a brief reflection on the life and teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, offering the congregation deep insights and spiritual nourishment.

Fr. Sossy, SJ, in his unique and engaging style, invited the congregants to partake in the snacks and tea prepared for the occasion with a memorable analogy: “As we walk out of the church building, we will encounter a little boy with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. We believe they will be multiplied to be enough for everyone present.”

Following the Mass, the community gathered outside the church to share tea and a variety of delicious snacks. The abundance of food was such that many attendees left with full plates, reminiscent of the ‘remaining 12 baskets’ from the biblical story. The evening was marked by a spirit of joy, sharing, and camaraderie, with plenty of jokes and laughter as the community remembered and honored St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The celebration was a testament to the enduring legacy of St. Ignatius and the vibrant faith of the Muyeye community. The glory of God was evident in the joy and fellowship shared by all.
