Our New Home
By Fr. Silas Kemboi, SJ
After a short ordination honeymoon, I reported to Molo the place of my next mission on September 1, 2024. Although my hometown, Kitale, is in the same direction, I had never visited Miki House, the Jesuit residence. I had only been shown the beautiful, green hill that is destined to be the home of the Proposed Hekima University (PHU). So, I didn’t really know what to expect.
Knowing that we Jesuits hadn’t yet built our own residence and that Miki House was a temporary gift from the Franciscan brothers, I was anticipating a small, modest, and perhaps poorly maintained house. I guess my oscillating between Nairobi and Kitale while avoiding Molo was somehow a way of my mind buying time and preparing for the eventualities.
I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival. The house was beautifully furnished, the rooms spacious, and everything was in place. I instantly felt at home. My heart swelled with gratitude for the generosity of the Franciscan brothers, and I am especially thankful to Fr. Chris Mapunda, who arrived a month earlier to prepare the house for our stay.
The sense of home was amplified by the presence of companions who had come from Nairobi for a meeting and great friends who took their time to accompany us to Molo.
Though I’m not particularly fond of cold weather, I look forward to a lovely time here. I hope and pray that God will grant us the necessary graces we need to faithfully accomplish the mission set before us. While we continue to assure you of our prayers, we ask you to keep us in yours as well.
Karibuni Molo the land of possibilities.
Oh, and before I forget our housewarming party is coming soon. Stay tuned for the invitation!
