Closing Workshop for the Professional Certificate in Data Science

On Wednesday, 3rd July 2024, the closing workshop for the Professional Certificate in Data Science by the proposed Hekima University (PHU) marked a significant milestone as participants showcased the outcomes of their projects via an online platform. The Professional Certificate Course in Data Science commenced on Monday, 2nd October 2023, at Hekima University College.

The workshop attracted participants from diverse sectors, including hospitality, religious organizations, community-based organizations, education, and the private sector. This diversity enriched the discussions and highlighted the versatility of data science applications across various industries. The event demonstrated the professional development of the participants and how data science can enhance operations and decision-making.

Participants utilized the data science life cycle throughout the session to develop their projects. This included identifying and planning problems, collecting and preparing data, analyzing data, building and deploying models, and reviewing and improving their solutions. Projects showcased during the workshop addressed sector-specific challenges, demonstrating the broad applicability of data science. Notable projects included optimizing resource allocation in community-based organizations, enhancing customer experience in the hospitality sector, and automating skills identification among children in underserved areas of Nairobi.

The workshop fostered a sense of community among professionals from different fields, encouraging knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving. The participants acknowledged the efforts of PHU, facilitators, organizers, and support staff who made the program possible. Their dedication ensured a seamless transition to the online format and the successful completion of the workshop. The collective efforts of all involved were crucial in providing a valuable learning experience during these challenging times.

Preparations are in progress for a conference featuring experts in Data Science, with the date yet to be determined. Additionally, PHU is gearing up for the next cohort intake for the Data Science professional course, set to begin in October 2024.
