Three Day Exhibition at Meru University of Science and Technology(MUST)
By Fr. Silas Kemboi, SJ

Albert Einstein tells us that, in theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, they are not. Embracing the practical side of this truth, Fr. Kyali and I had the privilege of visiting Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) on the 24th and 25th. The university was hosting a three-day exhibition under the theme Innovation and Commercialization for Transformation and Impact in Society. The event brought together students, lecturers, partners, and community entrepreneurs, all showcasing their innovative products.

Our visit was part of a benchmarking mission for PHU, as we, in collaboration with Hekima University College and Baraka Agricultural College, are planning to launch a six-month program on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IEP). Engaging with exhibitors and witnessing their creations first-hand was an eye-opener. We realized several areas where we could improve, allowing us to bridge the gap between theory and practice. With renewed inspiration, we are now refining our plans, integrating the valuable lessons we gained.

Going to MUST also left us encouraged. Although it started as a college, MUST is only 11 years old as a university. Someone told us that as a university it started with only 45 students who were studying in the iron-sheet refurbished buildings. At the moment, it is a place bustling with life with around 13,000 students. This made me feel that, as PHU, we can do it.

We are sincerely grateful to the PHU directorate for making this visit possible. A special thank you goes to Dr. Zac Chiliswa, who is familiar to some of us. Dr. Zac was our gracious host at MUST, generously dedicating his time to guide us, answer our questions, and introduce us to key figures at the university. His hospitality made us feel warmly welcomed.
