A Look Back
By Fr. Silas Kemboi, SJ
As mentioned in last week’s update, this week I reflect on my experience in Malindi. But this week’s reflection will mainly highlight some positive observations.
First, a parish is a carrefour. A place where people of diverse backgrounds come together. This was evident in the workshop, for the participants were of diverse age, gender, experience, and even faith. This diversity enriched discussions. It also confirmed the fact that promoting a consistent culture of safeguarding requires a critical mass, and if parishes take this seriously, our society will be a safer place for all.
Secondly, companionship is a verb. Despite the fact most of them have attended similar seminars multiple times, the four Jesuits missioned to Malindi actively participated in the seminar. Their presence demonstrated genuine support for our mission. You could feel the union of minds and hearts.
Thirdly, an engaging and punctual group is what every facilitator wished for. We were lucky to have engaging participants who kept time. Both Ms. Nafisa and Fr. Binamungu noted that this was among the most responsive groups they had encountered. Their enthusiasm and energy were infectious.
Lastly, team building can happen anywhere. For us, traveling together to Malindi and facilitating the workshop as a team was an excellent opportunity to build camaraderie and strengthen teamwork. This is an invaluable spirit in safeguarding assets for future initiatives.
Thank you for reading. Please stay tuned for next week’s update to read what I think could be areas for growth and improvement.
