One thing that attracted me to apply to the Jesuits was the idea that Jesuits taught priests. In my small mind and limited experience, I had some reasons why I wanted to teach priests. An opportunity to offer a course at a major seminary knocked recently.
On November 25th and 26th, I was privileged to offer an introduction to safeguarding and protection of children and vulnerable adults to 76 major seminarians at St. Mary’s Major Seminary-Molo. St. Mary’s major seminary is one of the national seminaries where students from all dioceses in Kenya come to begin their priestly formation journey.
For me, this is a God-given opportunity to contribute to making the future Church. It is a fact most of these seminarians will be the key decision-makers in tomorrow’s Church. Their exuberance and vitality during the seminar offer great hope that tomorrow’s church will continue being safe for the children and vulnerable adults.
The plan is to offer the seminarians 30 hours of training, thus making them trainers of trainers. I am looking forward to our next semester.
