St. Peter Claver Ecological and Computer Centre

SOUTH SUDAN | RUMBEK

The Centre was established in 2008 with the aim of offering students basic computer, electricity and solar, and basic construction, water, and sanitation training. In addition to the technical subjects, all students are trained in Mathematics, Physics, English, and Computers. The training is divided into two semesters, each lasting six months, with a two-month break in between the semesters. The program targets members of the local community offering them both theory and practical training. In 2018, the ecological course had 16 male students.
Activities/Projects Implemented
• Training: students took part in both theoretical and practical training in Electrical and solar technology and Basic construction water and sanitation.
Challenges
• Cultural restrictions: it is difficult to get girls or women to come for studies because of the local culture which marries girls at an early age due to the benefit of receiving lots of cows.
