Youth Apostolate at Kiwanja cha Ndege Parish, Dodoma

By Kavishe Waweru, SJ

The youth apostolate at Kiwanja cha Ndege Parish, Dodoma, continues to be a source of great inspiration and vitality within the Archdiocese and the Province. Working closely with the youth has been a deeply encouraging experience, marked by collaboration with enthusiastic young men and women many of whom are either working professionals or recent university graduates.

One of the most striking features of the Kiwanja cha Ndege youth is their strong spiritual grounding and commitment to the Church. They are actively involved in Small Christian Communities and parish life, a testament to the pastoral guidance and dedication of Fr. Mutambo, SJ and Fr. Kimario, SJ who continue to spearhead the daily pastoral and administrative life of the parish.

The youth group comprises over 300 young people, supported by more than 46 youth leaders, making it one of the largest and most active youth communities in the Archdiocese of Dodoma. Over the past four months, the youth have participated in several key activities, including a four day youth workshop in Mbea, organized by the Archdiocese of Dodoma, which focused on formation, leadership, and faith development.

In addition, the youths took part in a Youth Mass for the Archdiocese of Dodoma, celebrated with the Bishop. During this gathering, they were encouraged to embrace their youthfulness while remaining firmly committed to the values and principles of the Gospel.

The group also organized and participated in sports and recreational activities with neighboring parishes, notably Makore Parish and Msalato Parish, fostering fraternity, healthy competition, and inter-parish collaboration through sports and youth bonanzas.

Popularly known as the “K’Ndege Youths,” the group is widely recognized across the archdiocese for both its numbers and active participation in parish and archdiocesan youth programs. Their commitment to charity and service has been evident through activities such as visiting and supporting a fellow youth member involved in a motor vehicle accident and participating in parish cleaning and maintenance initiatives.

As the Parish looks ahead to 2026, where we celebrate our golden jubilee (50 years), there is strong hope and commitment to building a broader and more integrated youth network, linking Kiwanja cha Ndege Parish with neighboring parishes and the wider Province. The youth are full of energy, life, and generosity, and there is a clear call to continue channeling this dynamism toward the service of humanity, spiritual growth, and the holistic development of each young person.
