It is that day after years of sweat and tears, toils and moils… Although it has been a back breaking and soul-crushing effort, the daily tedium has finally crystalized to a sparkling thrust of sterling performance. Abay Mado Catholic Academy is a school that needs no introduction. In case, you have forgotten, the school is like a hamlet in a picturesque breathtaking landscape, in its sweep and scope with open moorland that enraptures to forested ravines tapping deep into the cascading waters of the Blue Nile. In an area buffeted by vagaries of war, restlessness and perennial conflicts, the school is tumultuously in a jubilant mood experiencing an invigorating vortex of hope and participating love.

A few days ago, thrilling news spreading like consuming bush fire, reached us about the sterling performance of the grade eight Class (2027/2026). The news was like a sound that was heard piercing stillness, a loud rattle that unfolded with fresh perception and colorful detail. Abay Mado Catholic Academy clinched the First position leading the pack of 57 schools in Bahir Dar and its outskirts. The school was also ranked as the best performing catholic school in the Region. Amidst the titanic sentimental holocaust of praise, competence is the buzzword in our system now. The current success is not pundit abracadabra but a touchstone of full unity and a gamut of teamwork. To use special lingo, in this tough arena where tough tackles reign, it is a make-or-break moment where hope and toil bakes heroes/heroines. The kind of hope that makes us persist in the battle and keep fighting until victory is won. AMCA has gone against the grain and showcased her academic prowess.

The school is firmly scaling the heights in academic agora, rising to the pinnacle of academia in the area and rapidly regaining its raison d’etre, a blossom back to the Jesuit tradition of forming men and women of conscience, compassion and commitment. Abigail Adam, the wife and closest advisor of the second US President John Adams said, ‘’Learning is not attained by chance. It must be bought for with ardor (passion) and attended to with diligence.’’ We immortalize the candid wisdom of Abigail Adam via the Motto of the school: Competence, Integrity and Service for the greater glory of God.
