Swahili Mass Continues to Bloom

By Godfrey Samwel, SJ

Greetings from Harare!

“For if he were not expecting that those who had fallen would rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead.” 2 Maccabees 12:44–46

Inspired by the spirit of this month, dedicated to praying for the souls of the faithful departed, we remember with love and hope our brothers and sisters who have gone before us, entrusting them to God’s infinite mercy. With this spirit of prayer and remembrance, we send you our warm greetings from Arrupe Jesuit Community.

On 1st November, we gathered with the Swahili community in Zimbabwe at Arrupe Jesuit University for our monthly Swahili Mass. This cherished tradition connects and unites us as brothers and sisters. Fr. Francis of the Archdiocese of Mwanza presided over the Mass, and Fr. Afulo, SJ; Fr. Tobias, SJ; Fr. Oscar, SJ; Fr. Tadele, SJ; and Fr. Alfonse from the Diocese of Bungoma concelebrated. The Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya and many other visitors from various countries in East Africa also attended. We thank God as our community continues to flourish and grow.

Moreover, we kindly ask for your prayers as we prepare for the end-of-semester exams, which will start on the 19th of this month. May the Good Lord continue to journey with us in our various missions and apostolates.
