Commission for University Education (CUE) Visits the Proposed Hekima University College Molo Campus

23rd September 2026 will go down in history as a historical day on which CUE visited the Proposed Hekima University Molo Campus (HUC-Molo Campus), to inspect facilities. This is a major milestone in the long journey to establish the Proposed Hekima University (PHU). The initial plan was to run the Business Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (BISE) program that CUE had approved, in Molo at Baraka Agricultural College (BAC), through HUC. By some act of divine providence and strategic move, the CUE recommended that it was better to apply for a Campus status in Molo. A letter was issued by CUE to Rev. Dr. Marcel Uwineza, SJ, Principal of HUC, informing him of the CUE visit to inspect the Proposed HUC Molo Campus on 23rd September, 2026. HUC and PHU team quickly convened a meeting to strategize on how to prepare for the CUE inspection.
A team of HUC were part of the advanced team to travel to Molo on 21st September 2026, led by Fr. Francis Anyanzu, SJ, Deputy Principal for Admin and Finance, and two ICT experts to help set up systems. Eric Mwaniki, SJ, PHU Logistics Officer, with Odomaro, SJ, also travelled on the same day as part of the advanced team, and to deliver several items essential for the Proposed HUC Molo Campus, like Desk Tops, Printer, extra books, water dispensers, and Organogram Chart. The other HUC team arrived on 22nd September 2026 led by Fr. Marcel, SJ, Principal of HUC, accompanied by Sr. Jacinta Opondo, Deputy Principal Academic Affairs, and Fr. George Macharia, SJ, Registrar of HUC. Dr. Mokua Elias, SJ, Proposed VC, PHU, planned to arrive on 23rd September, with a key stake-holder. There was a change in the plans, and Dr. Mokua joined the team on 23rd September in time for the presentations and engagement with CUE officials.
The long-anticipated CUE visit took place on 23rd September, 2026. A team of nine experts landed at the Proposed HUC Molo Campus by 9:00 AM. A brief courtesy visit followed at the Proposed HUC Molo Campus offices, and signing of the Visitor’s Book. Then followed the formal CUE session, with brief introductory words by HUC Principal Fr. Marcel. He thanked the CUE team for honoring their promise to visit Molo. He then requested the HUC Molo Campus team, as well as the BAC team, to introduce themselves, after which the CUE team also introduced themselves and stated the process of inspection. Four main activities were: Presentation of the Proposed HUC Molo Campus by the Principal of HUC (governance, administration structure, HR, academic program, facilities, etc); plenary session with questions from the CUE team on the presentation; physical inspection of facilities by CUE; and report on the inspection.
After presenting a comprehensive state of the various aspects of Proposed HUC Molo Campus, Fr. Marcel, he invited the CUE to respond and raise any concerns and clarifications. The CUE team went in great detail and rigor to question the preparedness for a campus status. Issues focused on compliance with CUE policies, financial sustainability, infrastructure, faculty, collaboration with BAC and evidence for that, etc. These questions were responded to by the different departments of HUC and PHU team. The relevant documents had all been meticulously prepared by the Proposed Director of HUC Molo Campus Fr. Christopher Mapunda, SJ, with the help of Fr. Macharia and Fr. Anyanzu. These were all displayed in the meeting room.
After a health break that took place at the Jesuit Community, where a substantial breakfast was served, the physical inspection commenced. Fr. Robert Kang’ethe, SJ, Logistics and Facilities Manager, lead the team for inspecting physical facilities. Fr. Odomaro Mubangizi, SJ, led the team inspecting the Library. Dr. Mokua, SJ, took part of the CUE to visit the Jesuit residence being under construction on the PHU property. The physical inspection took close to two hours.
The final session was a briefing on the inspection with a summary of findings and some recommendations. A comprehensive report will be sent sometime next week. Overall, the visit was good and most systems were in place, and where improvement was needed, this was pointed out. The HUC team was incredibly supportive by their presence and effort. Fr. Christopher Mapunda and Fr. Kang’ethe also did a wonderful job in preparing things on the ground. And the PHU team put in place whatever was necessary to make the CUE inspection a success. Looking forward to the final report and verdict on the whole inspection.
