Solemnity of St. Ignatius of Loyola: Final Vows of Rev. Fr. Augustine Edan Ekeno, SJ

By Victor Awiti, SJ

On 31 July 2026, the Solemnity of St. Ignatius of Loyola, our very own Rev. Fr. Augustine Edan Ekeno, SJ, professed his Final Vows during a joyful Eucharistic celebration at Holy Trinity Church, Georgetown, Washington, D.C. The Holy Mass was presided over by the new Provincial of the USA East Province, Rev. Fr. Robert E. Reiser, SJ, and was attended by numerous Jesuits from across the Jesuit Conference and beyond. Among those present were Rev. Fr. Endashaw Debrework, SJ, and of course Awiti SJ, representing the Eastern Africa Province.

The celebration was both prayerful and festive, highlighted by a profound homily delivered by Rev. Fr. Tim Kisicki, SJ. Reflecting on Fr. Ekeno’s Jesuit journey, Fr. Kisicki spoke of his steadfast love for the Society of Jesus and his generous dedication to the people he has served throughout his various ministries. Following the Eucharistic celebration, guests gathered for a warm reception where refreshments were served, culminating in a festive banquet held in honor of Fr. Ekeno. We join the Society of Jesus in thanking God for Fr. Ekeno’s generous “yes” and pray that the Lord will continue to bless and sustain him in his lifelong mission of service to the Church and the Society.
