Doubt and Deliberation on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Overcoming doubts about AI requires a combination of orientation, education, transparency and engagement. LCMC team had a very interactive AI day with Koinonia Community staff at Shalom House in Nairobi, Kenya. Koinonia Community is a lay Christian organization which offers African Hospitality for business, workshops, conferences, seminars and lectures, where proceeds are used to support the care for vulnerable children, youth and families.

When the community was informed about the AI training offered by LCMC and how AI tools could ease certain tasks within the organization, they longed for an opportunity to be guided through the use of these tools. A number of them had an idea about technology, its capabilities, and its limitations. Some had misconceptions and ground concerns on the whole concept of artificial intelligence. Some members were more interested in tools for organizational networking, individual and group efficiency; some were excited by AI tools for creating impactful presentations and animations whereas those in the education field were more interested in the educational content. Others found interest in spiritual content. Throughout the training, everyone endeavored to understand at least one AI tool that could be of great use in their fields. Participants made several comments after the training:

“I’m still on the fence about the whole AI revolution. On one hand, the potential benefits are undeniable for example more efficient logistics. But on the other, I can’t help but worry about job displacement, privacy concerns, and the potential for AI to become too powerful without adequate oversight”.

“I’m absolutely thrilled about the impact AI is having and will continue to have on our world. It holds the promise of addressing some of our most pressing challenges and improving the quality of our lives and work.”

LCMC continues to organize AI trainings for different groups and individuals. Kindly collaborate with us in promoting this project.
