By Ms. Teresia Muia

Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC) is reinforcing its leadership in global advocacy by partnering with the United Nations and DKA Austria for a pivotal virtual side-event on September 20, 2024. This event will bring together world leaders from the United Nations’ member states to address reforms and to update the global governance system to effectively address contemporary challenges like climate change, digital transformation and inequality.

The event set with a strong focus on future generations and creating a “Pact for the Future” outlines actionable steps to achieve this goal; this includes key areas like sustainable development, international peace and security, science and technology, youth engagement, and global governance reform.

Titled “A Conversation With and For Children on the Impact of Children’s Rights and the Environment,” this event gives young people a platform to express their concerns, ideas, and solutions on critical global issues. LCMC’s involvement underscores its mission to amplify youth voices, especially in decisions related to climate change and human rights, ensuring children have a meaningful role in shaping the future.

Key discussions will explore the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the recent “General Comment No. 26” on Children’s Rights and Climate Change. These conversations will focus on ensuring that young people are active participants in implementing the Pact for the Future, a key outcome of the upcoming UN Summit.

By driving this dialogue, LCMC is reaffirming its commitment to empowering youth and advocating for a sustainable, just world, positioning itself as a global leader in media-driven social justice initiatives.
