On a dew-kissed Saturday morning, the proposed Hekima University (PHU) Directorate team, along with their counterparts from Loyola Centre for Media and Communications (LCMC), embarked on a journey to St. Peter’s Church, nestled within the Molo Deanery of the Diocese of Nakuru.

This was a return visit, following a warm reception at Most Rev. Bishop Cleophas Oseso Tuka’s office on 9th October 2023, the pHU team found themselves amidst devout parishioners at St. Peter’s Church in Elburgon. Most Rev Bishop had extended a warm invitation to the team gathering in Elburgon, which comprised four parishes: St. Mary’s Molo, St. Peter’s Elburgon, St. Timothy Total, and St. Simon Peter Turi. The day marked the Bishop’s inaugural Deanery Mass since his installation and was also celebrated as a joyous Family Day, uniting the community in faith and love. As the mass began, the pHU team, eager to promote the university, observed the gathering of devout parishioners. The sweet hymns and reverent prayers filled the air, invoking a sense of unity and spiritual connection.

Our mission was clear, not only to participate in the Family Day mass but also to seize the opportunity to introduce the local community to the proposed Hekima University. The stage was then set for the pHU team to present respective offerings which was led by Fr. Odomaro, SJ. The Directorate team explained the exciting prospects that Hekima University held for the local youth, offering educational opportunities that would not only enhance their personal growth but also contribute to the community’s development. The team also highlighted the professional short courses currently available, including Financial Literacy and a Professional Course in Data Science, aiming to equip individuals with valuable skills. LCMC on the other hand, had a mission close to the Bishop’s heart, Child Identity Formation (CIF) and the team passionately presented the program, emphasizing the importance of nurturing children’s identity and character.

Later, His Most Rev. Bishop Oseso, with grace and authority, addressed the congregation. In his remarks, he emphasized the significance of working together in Molo, a pivotal hub within the Diocese of Nakuru as it is home to numerous catholic religious congregations. His Lordship acknowledged the importance of synergy and unity among these communities. Heartened by the presentations, His Lordship assured the congregation that their area was truly blessed. He pointed out that the forthcoming university at Baraka Area, which aptly translates to “Blessing,” signified the area’s divine favor. In Baraka area and larger Molo Deanery, not only would there be primary and secondary schools, and colleges, most significantly, a university. The Most Rev. Bishop’s words resonated with the congregation, instilling a profound sense of gratitude for the blessings that awaited their community.

The event was a resounding success, not just in terms of promoting education and personal growth but also in strengthening the sense of community and shared values within the Molo Deanery. As the sun reached its zenith in the sky, the grass beneath the feet warmed by the morning rays the participants left St. Peter’s Church with new-found hope and a deeper sense of purpose, all inspired by a Saturday that had become so much more than just a day of worship.
