Fr. Provincial Visit to Loyola High School, Dar es Salaam

It is our hope that you are well in your various stations of service. The Loyola High School community is grateful for your unwavering support and generous prayers for the well-being of the mission here in Dar-es-Salaam. A lot has transpired over the past few days.

First and foremost, we were delighted to host the Provincial, Abba Kizito in our community for the annual account of conscience. He arrived on Friday 29th September. On Saturday 30th, he attended the Loyola High School Board Meeting where he happens to be the chairperson. He also used this time to listen to each member of the community. His visit, which occurs only once a year, was so much consoling to all of us.

Secondly, on 7th of October, the school held its 25th graduation ceremony for the form 4 class who are currently preparing themselves to sit their National Examinations. This was a little bit different from what has been the norm whereby graduation takes place after the completion of their exams. The day began with the Eucharist which was very well animated by the form 1, 3 and 5. Afterwards, we had post-eucharist activities where various students showcased their talents. It was so consoling to see how talented and gifted our children are. It gave witness to what we encourage our students to strive: for academic and human excellence.

Thirdly, last Saturday, there was the general Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting which was well attended. Fr. Martin Waweru, the headmaster, took this opportunity to update parents of what has been happening in school since their last meeting in May. Parents also had the chance to air out their views, many sharing their joys about the quality education offered to their children by the school.

Finally, last Wednesday 25th October, we were happy to have among us the auxiliary bishop who came purposely to offer the sacrament of confirmation to our children. It was a happy occasion as not only did he confirm these but he also baptized some. He urged students to be disciplined and to work hard in order to achieve their dreams. The Eucharist was so well animated.

In other news, the form twos are beginning their national examinations on Monday. We beg for your prayers that they realize their earnest desires. We are also happy to receive new pre form ones who are expecting to join form one early next year and three new members in our community, Fr. Fidelis Udahemuka, SJ who is working as the bursar of Loyola High School, Scholastic Vincent, SJ who will also be working at Loyola High School, and Scholastic Fidelis, SJ who will be studying and serving as the minister of the house.
