The proposed Hekima University (pHU) kicked off a series of Power Breakfast Fundraising meeting on Friday, 26th January 2024 at the prestigious Royal Nairobi Golf Club, marking the start of a fundraising drive-in support of the university’s brick-and-mortar expansion project at its Molo Campus in Nakuru County.

Fr. Dr Odomaro Mubangizi, SJ pHU’s Deputy Director & Director Academic Affairs in a compelling introduction, provided a glimpse into the exciting future of pHU. Delving into the courses to be offered, he showcased the diverse educational opportunities that will shape the academic landscape and also highlighted the remarkable milestones achieved to date.

Following this insightful overview, Dr John Nyambega the Chairperson of pHU steering committee graciously introduced our esteemed guest speaker Professor Noah Midamba. Prof. Midamba, former Vice Chancellor of Kenya College Accountancy University (KCAU), is renowned for his transformative leadership in higher education. During his tenure at KCAU, he propelled the institution to become one of Africa’s largest private business university systems, with a notable increase in student enrolment across multiple campuses. His international recognition and extensive fundraising experience have garnered over $100 million to support various educational initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Midamba underscored the importance of college and university foundations, citing the benefits of expert governance and privacy protection. He emphasized that donors feel more secure when their contributions are managed by individuals with specialized expertise in legal, business, and financial management. College and university foundations, Prof. Midamba highlighted, offer a safeguard for donors seeking anonymity or privacy regarding their financial details. These foundations, governed by independent volunteer boards, ensure donations are utilized in strict accordance with donors’ wishes while providing leadership and support for fundraising initiatives.

The breakfast meeting served as the launchpad for a series of more similar gatherings scheduled in the coming months, leading up to a fundraising event in June 2024. Attendees expressed enthusiasm for supporting pHU’s expansion efforts, recognizing the pivotal role of philanthropy in advancing higher education infrastructure. United by a shared commitment, a stakeholder gave 300 bags of cement, and other generous donors made sincere financial pledges, fostering a collective endeavour towards our common goal.

The breakfast meeting concluded with a closing prayer led by Rev. Fr. Kizito Kiyimba, SJ, The Provincial for Eastern Africa Province, followed by the formal closure announced by the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Peter Wairegi, who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Steering Committee. With gratitude and a sense of purpose, the meeting came to a close under the guidance of these esteemed individuals.
