Faith, Fun and Feast: SJDP Marks the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola

SJDP’s Technical and Senior High sections marked the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola with a day that moved from quiet reflection to full celebration. It opened with a Holy Mass concelebrated by Father Paul, Father James and Father Pascal. In his homily, Father Paul reflected on St. Ignatius’s humility and resilience, urging students to carry the same spirit into their own lives. He closed with news that this would be his last Mass at the school, wishing students well in their studies and Form Fours success in their upcoming exams.
St. Ignatius of Loyola founded the Society of Jesus in 1540 after a battlefield injury redirected his life from soldiering to faith. His story of transformation through hardship is the same lens Jesuit schools like SJDP use to shape students today, discipline, reflection, and service.
By afternoon, the mood shifted. Technical and Senior High squared off in a lineup of modelling, dance and talent performances, with staff joining in rather than watching from the sidelines. The runway brought bold styling and crowd energy; the dance segment showcased class-by-class choreography; and the talent showcase revealed singers, comedians and spoken-word performers across both sections. Technical students used their slot to demonstrate their coursework directly, turning performance into a window on what each program actually trains students to do.
The day closed with the Mr. and Ms. St. Joseph crowning, with winners named from staff, Technical and Senior High students. It was a fitting balance to the day’s arc: solemn beginnings, spirited close, and a shared reminder of the values St. Ignatius stood for.
From solemn prayer to spirited performance, the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola reminded the SJDP community of the balance the saint himself embodied: deep faith paired with bold, joyful energy. It was, in every sense, a day to remember.
