They Asked for It. Now They Are Living It!

Vocational Training Centre – Kangemi, that philosophy just gave birth to something exciting: a brand-new Hospitality Course. Born out of student demand and designed for real-world impact, the programme blends practical skills with professional knowledge, opening doors to employment and entrepreneurship. The first cohort is already living the difference.
Where It All Began
Students had been asking for more diverse training options, and hospitality, familiar, practical, and full of career potential, rose to the top. The course now prepares learners for roles in hotels, restaurants, catering, and event management, while also nurturing entrepreneurial skills for those who want to build their own ventures.
Setting it up wasn’t without hurdles, especially sourcing specialized equipment. But the administration sees the first cohort as a valuable learning point: “We will continue improving the course so that every new class receives an even better learning experience.”
Passion in the Classroom
Instructor Mrs. Millicent brings years of industry experience, and a belief that hospitality is really about professionalism, creativity, teamwork, and delivering great experiences. “The hospitality industry is exciting because there is always something new to learn,” she says.
She’s impressed by her students’ curiosity and drive, and pushes them beyond exams toward real confidence and problem-solving. Her hope: graduates who walk out ready to get hired, or start something of their own. “The most important thing is the willingness to learn. Everything else can be developed through commitment and practice.”
From the Students: Real Experiences, Real Impact
For the pioneer class, the course has been hands-on and eye-opening, covering food prep, customer service, teamwork, and professional standards. Students say it’s sharpened their communication, discipline, and attention to detail, skills that spill over into every part of life.
Many studying photography, event planning, and business have found hospitality skills give them an edge in organizing events and working with clients.
There’s a real sense of pride in being first: “We are setting the foundation for future hospitality students,” one learner shares, a responsibility the class wears proudly.

With dedicated instructors, supportive leadership, and eager students, it’s shaping up to be one of the centre’s flagship programmes, and the pioneer class is proud to be laying that foundation.
